Leadership programme for teams and boards

From Reactive to Responsive

Under pressure, the best leaders do not react faster. They respond better.

Why it matters

Pressure narrows thinking

When pressure rises, individuals and teams tend to leave their window of tolerance, the zone in which we stay calm enough to think and alert enough to act.

Outside that zone, two patterns appear. Chaos: haste, reactivity, open conflict. Or rigidity: control, withdrawal, silence. Neither leads to good decisions.

Chaos

Reactive, scattered

Window of tolerance

Clear, open, responsive

Rigidity

Closed, controlling
The approach

Mindfulness, redefined for leaders

This is not relaxation. It is the training of attention, grounded in Mindsight and interpersonal neurobiology: the study of how the mind, the brain and our relationships shape one another.

At its heart is integration. When the different parts of the brain, and the different members of a team, work together rather than against each other, people stay within their window of tolerance, even when the stakes are high.

What changes in the organisation

Collaboration that holds

Teams keep working together when pressure rises, instead of splitting into silos or camps.

Tensions seen early

Areas of friction are noticed and named while they are still small, and addressed openly.

Conflict as a source of progress

With a clearer mind, teams regain access to creativity and turn disagreement into better solutions.

The foundations of trust-based leadership

At the Board Summit, the programme was presented around three capacities that leaders can train, and that together create the conditions for trust.

Presence

Being fully here, open to what is happening

Attunement

Sensing what others are experiencing

Resonance

Letting others feel understood

“Responsiveness is not learned from books. It is practised in the body, in the mind, and with the people around us.”
